Shields Library is closed through January 1. Requests for books, digitization services, and interlibrary loan will be fulfilled after the new year.

Shields Library featured twice in Best of Davis 2017

In the California Aggie’s “Best of Davis 2017” issue, Shields Library was voted best place to study on campus. Shields toppled its on-campus runners-up (the CoHo and Student Community Center) with over 58% of the vote.

Among the many resources and amenities that students love about the library: a 24-hour study room, private study rooms, individual charging lockers and battery packs, whiteboards, headphones and many more.

Serena Uppal, a third-year economics and math double major quoted in the story said, “Shields is a very convenient location on campus. It’s right next to a lot of classrooms, as well as places like the CoHo and MU.”

Another win in the “Best of Davis 2017” issue was the iconic bookhead statue in front of Shields. The bookhead, which shows an egghead with its nose buried in a book, won best egghead with over 47% of the vote.

Jasnoor Kaur, a third-year neurobiology, physiology and behavior major told the Aggie, “It reminds me of how I feel about studying.”

During midterms and finals weeks, it is common for students to kiss or rub “Bookhead’s” bald skull for luck.
