New Journal Lookup Tool for UC Open Access Agreements
Visual guide to open access publishing process also now available
We are pleased to announce that the UC libraries have launched a Journal Open Access Look-up Tool (JOLT), a new service designed to help UC authors determine if a journal qualifies for funding support under one of UC’s open access publishing agreements.
With JOLT, authors can search more than 10,000 journals by title or ISSN to find out if a specific journal is covered by a UC agreement and the extent of available funding support. Additionally, JOLT search results provide links to an FAQ page that outlines the publisher agreement and its payment details.
Journals that can’t be found with JOLT (i.e., those that are not covered by a UC-wide open access agreement) AND that are full open access journals may be eligible for partial support through the UC Davis Library’s Open Access Fund.
Additional features such as subject search, and which additional journals are covered by campus-level discounts or funding support (such as our local Open Access Fund), are in development for a later release. The JOLT website also includes a feedback link in the upper-right corner; authors are encouraged to provide any comments or suggestions.
Visual guide to open access publishing at UC
A second tool, launched recently, is a guide that should help authors to better understand the complex UC open access landscape and to make decisions about open access publishing. The UC Office of Scholarly Communication offers a visual guide for print and download, as well as a text version.
If you have any questions please contact the Library’s Scholarly Communication Officer Michael Ladisch (mladisch@ucdavis.edu).
