Library Leadership
William Garrity
University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship
William Garrity heads the library and reports to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor.
Governance Structure
A number of councils and committees within the library, the campus and the UC system help guide the library’s goals, strategic direction and operations.
UC System Level Governance
Council of University Librarians (CoUL)
Consisting of the university librarian from each of the 10 UC campuses and the executive director of the California Digital Library, CoUL provides collaborative leadership and system-level strategic planning for the UC libraries and advises the President on related issues.
UC Academic Senate University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (UCOLASC)
Consisting of the chairs of each UC campus’ faculty Senate library committee, UCOLASC advises the President concerning the administration of the UC libraries.
Librarians Association of the University of California (LAUC)
A statewide organization of all UC librarians, LAUC advises the University on professional and governance matters related to the UC libraries.
UC Davis Level Governance
UC Davis Academic Senate Library Committee
Consisting of faculty and student representatives from the Davis campus and UC Davis Health, the Library Committee advises the UC Davis University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship on issues related to administration of the library, including space allocation, faculty needs, management of physical and digital library holdings, and scholarly communications.
Library Level Governance
Librarians Association of the University of California – Davis Division (LAUC-D)
Representing UC Davis librarians, LAUC-D advises campus and library administration on professional and governance matters of concern to all librarians.
Library Leadership Board
The primary volunteer leadership group for the library, the board advances the library’s philanthropic goals and advises library leadership on strategic planning and goal setting.
Library Executive Council
The library’s senior leadership group reports to and advises the University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship on strategic issues, policies, and decisions affecting all aspects of the library’s operations.
Library Management Council
Consisting of the library’s department heads and executives, Library Management Council coordinates the library’s day-to-day operations and advises library leadership on implementation of strategy and policy.
Operational Committees
The following library committees provide strategic and operational support on key issues, and are accountable to the library’s senior leadership team.
