Meet Library Intern Rayan Mansoor

In fall 2025 the library launched a paid internship program for undergraduates to gain professional experience while supporting library services. There are four undergraduate students in our inaugural 2025-26 cohort, and today we’re pleased to share an update from intern Rayan Mansoor.

Based in the library’s Student Services Department, Rayan is working with librarians Erik Fausak and Melinda Livas to design e-learning content related to generative artificial intelligence (AI). Check back soon to hear from more of our interns!

What are you working on?

Human x Machine AI Learning Lab

The focus of my project is to create interactive e-learning modules to educate undergraduates on ethical and efficient AI practices, and help them learn how to effectively use AI tools in their fields of study. 

As part of my research to develop the modules, I attended two seminars in fall quarter, including an 8 week-series on the core principles of AI literacy. This quarter I am leading the first module, Human x Machine, a new biweekly AI learning lab at the library for students. I am also planning a module for spring. 

Why do we need an AI learning lab? 

Colleges across the U.S. and the world are grappling with the implications of the sudden advancement of AI. Professors struggle to identify original content, and students wonder how to effectively use it to foster their learning. 

This module will be an invaluable resource in these uncertain times and will attempt to raise general AI awareness among our student body. Given the erratic nature of AI’s development, this module will be experimental and equip students to navigate AI’s ongoing proliferation.

What experience have you gained from this internship?

I feel as though this internship has allowed me to truly understand the nature of the AI boom, and I am excited to share what I’ve learned through my module to assist my peers. 

Librarians Erik Fausak and Melinda Livas of Student Services have been instrumental in my pursuit of AI literacy, and I am pleased to be working on this project under them. I’ve had the opportunity to become more familiar with edtech tools, as well as Canva and DaVinci Resolve. I look forward to further refining my skills and applying my knowledge into a finished project next year. 

What’s next?

I have plans to incorporate web development into this project by creating a small interactive chatbot designed to teach students the basics of prompt engineering and other AI literacy concepts. Using tools like HTML, CSS and JavaScript, I hope to build a hands-on resource that pairs well with my module and helps students better understand how to work with this technology.
