It’s Library-Palooza on Picnic Day!
Join us for children's storytime, Egghead exhibits and coloring sheets, AR Sandbox and more
If you’ll be attending UC Davis Picnic Day this Saturday, stop by Shields Library from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.! We’ve got lots of fun (and egg-citing!) activities for all to enjoy:
Storytime with Professor Fran Dolan (11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.)
Bring your little ones for storytime in the library Courtyard. Picture books will be read by UC Davis English Professor Fran Dolan.
Archives and Special Collections exhibits
Check out our latest exhibits highlighting the history of the Eggheads, the Third World Forum student-run newspaper, and the literary archives of park ranger and environmental writer Jordan Fisher Smith.
Egghead coloring sheets, sidewalk chalk
Get egg-xtra creative with our Egghead-themed coloring sheets and a blank canvas for sidewalk chalk art in our Courtyard.
Data Science Activities: AR and VR with DataLab
Make mountains in DataLab’s Augmented Reality Sandbox and see what happens when it rains — or a volcano explodes (ages 6+). Then go on a virtual hike of your landscape in Virtual Reality (ages 13+). Learn about coding and coordinates as you draw and color alongside data scientists (all ages).
Historical Picnic Day films
Enjoy a cinematic celebration of Picnic Days past dating back to 1941!
You can also find us unleashed at the parade…
Planning to attend the Picnic Day paw-rade? Look for our Archives and Special Collections team! In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the School of Veterinary Medicine, they’ve recreated a historical float from 1957, featuring a giant Scotty dog being groomed and cared for by Vet Med students.
…and virtually (if you can’t make it in person)!
If you can’t make it to Picnic Day this year, you don’t have to miss out! Enjoy some Aggie nostalgia on your own schedule with our Picnic Day Digital Collection, which includes program booklets dating back to 1909, our online exhibit Picnic Day: By the Decade, and historic Picnic Day films on our YouTube channel. Or download and print our egg-xclusive Egghead coloring sheets to color at home! Share your art by tagging us @UCDavisLibrary on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter/X.
