Celebrate Archives Month With Us
Learn about archives and the work of archivists this October!
Happy American Archives Month! Throughout October, libraries and other organizations around the nation highlight the importance of historical records and the work of archivists.
Our own Archives and Special Collections Department has planned several events in recognition of Archives Month — we invite you to join us!

October 9: Author Talk: The Nature of Her Business

Author and UC Davis alumna Janet Kaidantzis will share the stories of trailblazing women who built successful tourism businesses in the early 20th century and a glimpse into her research process in her talk, The Nature of Her Business: Female Proprietors of Summer Resorts at Lake Tahoe, 1900-1930.
As part of that research, Kaidantzis relied on materials, including diaries, personal correspondence, and photographs, from two collections in the UC Davis Library’s Archives and Special Collections: the Pierce Family Papers (D-022) and the Glen Alpine Springs Collection (D-698). Selected items from the collections will be on display during the event.
- Oct. 9, 5:30-7 p.m., Shields Library Rm. 167
- Register for the Author Talk.
Bound in Time Exhibit

Our new exhibit, Bound in Time: Women’s Journeys Through Scrapbooks and Photo Albums, showcases the journeys of various women who traveled through or lived in California between 1901 and 1956.
The exhibit recreates pieces of their journeys through the pages included in various scrapbooks and photo albums. The photographs and descriptions detail journeys full of friendship, family, and independent achievements, but also reveal more about the woman behind each album.
- Visit the Bound in Time exhibit on the first floor of Shields Library, near Archives and Special Collections. Enjoy a souvenir postcard (while supplies last!).
