Aggie Experts is Now Open to the Public

Platform showcases UC Davis research impact and expertise; makes it easier to connect

What do an axolotl, pinot noir and childcare have in common? They all have been researched at UC Davis. And now it’s easier than ever to find these experts and thousands more.

“For those of us who have the privilege of working with researchers here at UC Davis, the breadth of scholarship happening across campus will come as no surprise. It is one of the inspirations for doing our work,” said William Garrity, UC Davis’ University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship. “Even so, it can be hard to comprehend and describe the sheer magnitude of it. That’s where Aggie Experts comes in.”

Aggie Experts is an integrated platform that showcases UC Davis research expertise. It brings together publications and grants of Academic Senate and Federation faculty to create researcher profiles. Through these pages, the public can now explore the staggering contributions UC Davis researchers make to expand the bounds of human knowledge.

Showcase the impact of UC Davis research.

For example, reading UC Davis’ recent story about the search for new ways to treat pain may make you want to dive deeper into Professor Bruce Hammock’s work. A quick search in Aggie Experts will lead to his profile, including numerous grants and publications — each the product of months, if not years, of research. It is an apt illustration of the tremendous amount of work that gets done in a university research setting before an effective treatment, technology or policy can be developed by a private company or government institution. The work of the university is foundational for the prosperity and health of our broader society.

  • Search Tip: Explore the “Search matches” link under each expert’s name to find out which of their grants and publications are relevant to your search. To learn how to narrow down or broaden your results or perform complex searches, review our search tips.
  • Expert Tip: To learn more about how to customize your profile, refer to the Aggie Experts FAQs.

Connect with research collaborators, expert sources, faculty mentors.

The Aggie Experts platform is not just a showcase. It is a tool for scholars seeking research collaborators, industry and community groups in search of academic partners, students seeking a mentor, and journalists in search of expert sources.

Whether you heard a UC Davis researcher speak at a conference and want to know more about their work, or you’re hoping to find an expert on a particular topic — let’s say, tomatoes or wildfires — you can search by name or keyword in Aggie Experts. Search results are displayed based on alignment between search terms and researchers’ work and grant titles.

  • Search Tip: After doing a keyword search, use the Experts tab under “Refine Results” to access filter options and discover experts interested in being contacted by media or for community and industry projects.
  • Expert Tip: You are more likely to be contacted if you provide a big picture overview of your work in the introduction section of your profile. See the Aggie Experts FAQs for guidance on how to add more information to your profile.

Save time for faculty and staff.

Our third priority in designing Aggie Experts was to ensure that, for UC Davis faculty, the platform results in less rather than more work. To achieve that goal, Aggie Experts is integrated with several university systems, reducing the burden of redundant data entry. Edit your information in one place, and then reuse it with the click of a button.

  • Expert Tip: Read about existing integrations here.
  • Coming soon: Faculty will be able to import information from their Aggie Experts profile into academic department websites.
