Meet Library Intern Anette Dabkowski
In fall 2025, the library launched a paid internship program for undergraduates to gain professional experience while supporting library services. There are four undergraduate students in our inaugural 2025-26 cohort, and today we’re closing out our intern interview series with Anette Dabkowski.
Anette is working with Library Administration on projects that advance the library’s strategic priorities.
Interview with Anette Dabkowski

Library Team: Library Administration
Projects: Research for Graduate School of Management Dean Recruitment, Peer-to-Peer Proposal
I really enjoy research and problem solving, which are two key aspects that drew me to the Strategic Initiatives internship.”
— Library undergraduate intern Anette Dabkowski
What are you working on?
In my role within administration, I do not work on one continuous project, but instead get to connect with many different parts of the library, which I truly find special. Throughout the quarter I have completed several mini projects, but I wanted to highlight two in particular: research for the Graduate School of Management dean recruitment, and a Peer-to-Peer Program proposal, which is still ongoing.
Research for the Graduate School of Management Dean Recruitment
I recently completed background research for the upcoming recruitment of the next dean of the Graduate School of Management. I analyzed the major challenges facing higher education and business schools, and using this work, I helped review the position profile used in the search process, co-chaired by one of my mentors, the University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship, William Garrity. It was an honor to contribute to such an important effort, and it allowed me to apply my analytical and research skills to work that has a meaningful impact on the campus community.
Peer-to-Peer Proposal
The second project, which I will continue working on for many more weeks, involves researching peer-to-peer programs at UC Davis and other universities and developing the structure for a program proposal. This work will help shape the UC Davis Library’s own peer mentorship model. I have been identifying program needs, brainstorming ideas and speaking with departments about potential collaborations. Although it is a large project, I am grateful to be contributing to an initiative that will directly benefit students and the UC Davis campus.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue this project and take on new ones that will strengthen my skills and allow me to contribute positively to UC Davis. One highlight of this internship has been meeting weekly with the other interns and hearing about their experiences and the work they are doing with their mentors. Learning more about the library each week has deepened my appreciation for the essential role it plays within the university.
I want to share a special thank you to Student Services Librarian Melissa Browne, Associate University Librarian Nicole Capdarest-Arest, and William Garrity for such an amazing quarter. I am looking forward to continuing the work next quarter and learning even more!
