Hey, good lookin’ – what ya got cookin’?
Today, March 28, 2018, marks the 310th birthday of Hannah Glasse. Today’s Google Doodle honors Glasse for being the author of the first popular cookbook. Called “the first domestic goddess” and “the queen of the dinner party,” she was not recognized in her lifetime.
Her book, The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy, was popular for its conversational style, which made it approachable by the general public. It was first published in 1747.
We have the 1778 and 1788 editions in our Special Collections.
