Shields Library is closed through January 1. Requests for books, digitization services, and interlibrary loan will be fulfilled after the new year.
UC Library Search Is Almost Here; Melvyl Retires Next Week
Important note: Our library catalog and website may be unavailable for a short time on Tuesday, July 27 as we complete the migration to this new system.
We’re in the final stretch: After four years of planning and preparation, UC Library Search is scheduled to launch next week. On July 27, 2021, UC Library Search will replace Melvyl and the library catalogs for all ten UC campus libraries — creating a single site for searching the entire UC library system. Here at UC Davis, the ability to search the Mabie Law Library, which is part of the School of Law, will also be integrated for the first time.
Once UC Library Search is live, our UC Library Search: User Guide will help you learn the basics. UC Library Search is built using the same software that our UC Davis Library catalog has used for the past several years, so the new system may look familiar.
We will continue to add to the user guide with FAQs as we hear what questions people have, so if you need help, please do not hesitate to contact us at uclibrarysearch@ucdavis.edu.
Melvyl Users: Last Call!
If you have personal saved lists in Melvyl, what should you do to keep them?
- Melvyl saved lists will not be moved to UC Library Search. By July 26, follow these steps to save your Melvyl lists:
- Log in to Melvyl by clicking “Sign In.”
- Enter your username and password.
- Click on your account name, and select “My Personal Lists” from the drop-down menu. From there you can access your saved lists.
- You can email your lists to yourself, or you can click on the “Cite” button and export them into citation management software.
What should you do with your saved searches?
Melvyl saved searches will not be moved to UC Library Search. By July 26:
- Log in to Melvyl by clicking “Sign In.”
- Enter your username and password.
- Click on the “Saved Searches” link in the gray menu bar.
- Make a note of your search terms if you wish to reproduce them later in UC Library Search.
What should you do about links or bookmarks to Melvyl records?
Melvyl links will not automatically redirect to UC Library Search. If you have links to Melvyl records, either in your browser bookmarks, Canvas, Elentra, or elsewhere, you can log in to Melvyl and save them to a list, which you can then email to yourself or export into citation management software.
