Picnic Day Parade, 2000 (UC Davis Library/Archives and Special Collections)

Get Ready for #VirtualPicnicDay and Give Day!

While the UC Davis community may be spread across the world, this weekend we can still share the experience of celebrating Picnic Day and Give Day — online!

Picnic Day 106 goes virtual

Saturday, April 18

Tomorrow, the UC Davis Library will be participating in the campus’ first-ever Virtual Picnic Day, with do-at-home activities for kids and an extensive new online exhibit that offers a nice, long walk down Picnic Day memory lane. We hope you’ll join us (online)!

Coloring Sheets
A crowd favorite at the Shields Library Open House for the past three years: coloring sheets themed to match special exhibits from the library’s Archives and Special Collections. This year you can have the same experience safely from home! The sheets will be available starting Saturday on the Picnic Day website under the Children’s Discovery Fair section. (If you want to get a headstart, we’ve been sharing them on Facebook and Twitter, too.) Print, color, and share your work with us on social media using #VirtualPicnicDay and tagging us @ucdavislibrary!

Want to learn more while your kids color? Visit the companion online exhibits at library.ucdavis.edu/exhibits.

Online Exhibit
Archives and Special Collections has curated a special new online exhibit, Picnic Day: By the Decade, showcasing the history of Picnic Day through photographs and videos. Want to see the Blue and Dairy Club’s prize-winning float from 1939 that featured a running milk fountain? See this and more on the Picnic Day website under the Exhibits section.

Give Day 2020

Friday, April 17 at noon – Saturday, April 18 at 5pm
While you’re celebrating #VirtualPicnicDay, don’t forget that it’s also UC Davis Give Day! The Class of 2020 has been raising money to create a new group study room at Shields Library as their Senior Class Gift.

While our buildings are currently closed as we all shelter-in-place, we know that once the current public health crisis is past, our students will return, face-to-face teamwork on group projects will again be part of their academic experience — and our group study rooms will again, as always, be in high demand.

So this Give Day, we invite you to join us in helping take this fundraising goal across the finish line. Any amount helps and anyone can give. To donate, click here.
