East Asian Languages Collection Moving to Second Floor of Shields Library

Pardon our dust while we mooove a few things around this summer

The library is preparing to shift the locations of certain materials on the first and second floors of Shields Library during summer 2024: consolidating collections in H-HX (Social Sciences) on the second floor of Shields Library; moving collections in J (Political Science) to join H-HX; and relocating collections in K (Law) to join L (Education).

This consolidation will allow us to move the East Asian Languages Collection from its current location on the east end of the first floor of Shields into the space on the second floor where J-K had previously been. In this new location, the East Asian collection will be exposed to less natural light, which can damage books over time. The collection will also have a larger footprint in its new space, allowing it to continue to grow.

The library aims to complete this work before classes begin in Fall 2024.

  • Will these materials remain available for use during the shift?
Yes, materials will remain available for use throughout the summer.
  • Where can I find books in these collections while this shift is in progress?
Check UC Library Search for the current location of any books you need. If you have questions about how to find an item, please visit the Shields Library Circulation Desk for assistance.
  • Who can I contact with general questions about this project?
For any other questions, contact Robin Gustafson, the library’s head of Access and Delivery Services, at rlgustafson@ucdavis.edu.
