Bookhead in the process of installation, October 1991. Bookhead is often associated with the library due to its bookish nature and proximity to Shields Library. It may just be our favorite! (University Archives, AR-198))

Happy 30th Birthday, Eggheads!

Celebrate Year of the Eggheads at the library with performances, pop-up displays, coloring activities

2024 is the Year of the Eggheads — a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the completion of Robert Arneson’s Egghead Series at UC Davis. We are egg-cited to take part in campus festivities recognizing these iconic sculptures, and the yearlong party officially hatches today! Join us for these events and activities at Bookhead and Shields Library:

April 4, 6-8 p.m. Jazz Ensemble and Poetry Performance, Ceremonial Lighting

Fun fact: Bookhead was the first of the Egghead Series to be installed.

Head over to Bookhead in front of Shields Library for a live student jazz ensemble performance by the Music Department and Egghead-inspired poetry by select MFA students from the creative writing program. Then enjoy a ceremonial lighting of the Eggheads at Bookhead and Eye on Mrak (Fatal Laff).

Ongoing at Shields Library

Visit our special egg-xhibits in the lobby, including:
