UC Davis is one of 12 charter participants in a national effort to increase the availability of open access options for book authors. The library, with support from the College of Letters and Science, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Research is committing to a five-year pilot program that will provide grants to cover authors’ costs associated with publishing open access books. With an impressive list of participating presses, the initiative is a big step in bringing open access options to campus book authors.

Join us as we celebrate the initiative’s launch on campus and discuss the role and future of open monograph publishing. University Librarian MacKenzie Smith will moderate a panel including:

  • Nick Lindsay, MIT Press
  • Elena McAnespie, UC Press
  • Patrick Carroll, Associate Professor of Sociology and Science and Technology Studies
  • Elizabeth Freeman, Professor of English
  • Michael Wolfe, Scholarly Communications Officer, UC Davis Library
