UC-PLoS Open Access Publishing Agreement is Now Live

Thanks to a new agreement between the University of California and the open access publisher Public Library of Science (PLOS), it is now easier and more affordable for UC authors to publish in PLOS journals. 

Under the agreement, the UC libraries will automatically pay the first $1,000 of article processing charges (APC) for all PLOS publications with a UC corresponding author. 

For APCs exceeding $1000, the author will be asked to indicate whether they have research funds available to pay the remainder of the APC. Authors who do not have research funds available can request full funding of the article processing charge from the UC libraries, ensuring that lack of research funds does not present a barrier for UC authors who wish to publish in PLOS journals. This transaction will be handled directly between the UC libraries and PLOS; authors do not need to contact their campus library to request funds.

The agreement covers articles submitted between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2022.
