Strategic Planning Process: Call for Comment on Draft Plan
The UC Davis Library’s draft strategic plan for 2022-2027 is now available for comment by the UC Davis community. We invite you to read the draft plan and share your feedback with us by emailing librarystrategicplanning@ucdavis.edu by January 31, 2022.
“With this plan, we will both update the library’s overall strategy and significantly deepen our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion — in everything from our collections, to making library buildings more welcoming, to reexamining how we support our diverse community of students, faculty, researchers and clinicians,” said MacKenzie Smith, University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship.
The draft strategic plan focuses on five priorities:
- Create welcoming physical and virtual spaces for our increasingly diverse campus community.
- Empower diverse campus communities to succeed via education, public engagement, and community partnerships.
- Advance our role as a catalyst for research, collaboration, and access to knowledge.
- Ensure that our collections embrace equity, reflect diverse populations and adapt to meet clinical care, research and educational needs.
- Spark an organizational culture rooted in empathy and transparency to enable an atmosphere of well-being and growth.
The Strategic Planning Process
In January 2021, the library initiated a four-phase strategic planning process led by a 10-member steering committee and guided by DeEtta Jones and Associates (DJA), a nationally recognized leader in facilitating strategic planning and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in academic libraries.
The draft plan reflects collaboration and consultation at all levels of the university, including students, faculty, instructors, researchers, clinicians and staff; campus and UC Davis Health leadership; the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; library personnel; and other stakeholders.
Consultations included focus groups, a campuswide survey, briefings, values sessions, ideation sessions, and open office hours. We also consulted closely with the Academic Senate Library Committee throughout the process.
