Shields Library Study Spaces

A variety of open seating areas are located throughout all floors of the Shields Library and are designated as:

24-Hour Study Room
Shields Library provides 24-hour access to study space year-round for currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, including expanded locations to accommodate peak study times, such as during final exams.
The entrance to this space is located on the north side of building, directly across from the Quad. Undergraduate and graduate students must swipe their student ID card at the card reader located at the entrance to access this space. Problems accessing the room should be reported using the Technical Support form.
Group Study Rooms
There are eight group study rooms at Shields Library, available via reservation.
IET Computer Room

Graduate Study Nooks
Shields Library has 35 graduate study nooks available to PhD and Masters students, based on availability.
Assignments are made for one year to the nearest beginning of a quarter. At the end of the assignment, the occupant must vacate the space. Graduate study nooks must be renewed quarterly but may not be renewed for longer than one year. Assignments will be made according to the waiting list kept in chronological order. Double assignments to a single study nook may be made if requested by both parties.

Faculty Research Rooms
Shields Library has 28 faculty research rooms that are available to members of the Academic Senate, Academic Federation research titles, and Emeriti faculty. Research rooms are assigned for library-centered projects requiring use and storage for significant amounts of library material.
Faculty research rooms are not intended for use as office space.
