I discovered that research is never stagnant, nor is a publication always correct; instead, research is a moving conversation between like-minded professionals.

Project Description

Garaffo’s literature review analyzes new therapeutics that block the CD47-SIRPα pathway, allowing the body’s own immune system to attack cancer cells. CD47 is a protein that certain cancer cells overexpress in order to evade the immune system; SIRPα refers to the immune cell receptor that receives that signal. Using the library’s subject guides and databases, Garaffo identified more than 20 peer-reviewed articles that allowed him to see how several research groups are building upon each other’s work to advance this emerging field.
