The Association of Lifecourse Residential Segregation with Cognition and Cognitive Decline
Project Description and Impact
Lor examined how residential segregation is associated with cognitive decline in a racially and ethnically diverse cohort of older adults. Combining historical census data with study participant resident data, he used statistical models to uncover slower rates of cognitive decline among Hispanic participants living in cities with high segregation — a novel finding that suggests a protective effect of ethnic enclaves and offers future guidance for residential policies and resource management.
