Building Evacuation

When a fire alarm sounds:

  • Exit the building immediately
  • Use the nearest exit. Emergency exits are located in all stairwells.
  • Exit as quickly as possible.
  • Do NOT use elevators during an evacuation.
    • If you are not able to evacuate safely, call 911.
  • Assemble outside at the evacuation meeting area.
    • See below for locations.
  • Do NOT reenter the building until given the all-clear by a library official.
    • If someone in your group is missing, do NOT attempt to reenter the building. Inform first responders instead.

Assembly areas

Gather at the designated assembly area to be notified when it safe to reenter.

At Shields Library:

Outside the main entrance. Please stay back from the doors to allow others to evacuate.

At Blaisdell Medical Library:

Primary: The lawn by Shriners Hospital, adjacent to the Shriners Hospital Parking garage

Secondary: The Larry Vanderhoef Commons lawn in front of Betty Irene Moore Hall
