William Garrity
University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship
- Library Administration
William Garrity is the University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship at the University of California, Davis, providing strategic leadership for one of North America’s top research libraries. He oversees all aspects of the library — including UC Davis’ world-class collections, library services and programs, and operations at Shields Library and Blaisdell Medical Library — while coordinating closely with the Mabie Law Library.
Bill champions the library as both a core academic partner that advances educational, research and clinical excellence, and as a “third space” that supports student success and a sense of belonging on campus. As Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship, Bill also oversees the UC Davis DataLab.
Bill previously served as UC Davis’s deputy university librarian and chief operating officer for ten years. Before joining UC Davis, he held library and IT leadership positions at the University of Chicago, Dartmouth, and the University of Pennsylvania.
