Project Description

Carey wrote about the influence of ancient Roman republican tradition on the creation of the American Constitution, particularly the judicial branch. Using books and articles she found at Shields Library to compile quotes from Roman philosophers and the Founding Fathers, Carey was able to draw connections between the Roman theory of mixed government and the structure of the American judiciary.
