Sacramento Union Newspaper. Archives.

Collection Number: D-350

The archives contain 660 bound volumes and some accounting and business records from the early years of the newspaper. The photograph files run daily from 1966 to 1994. The clipping files provide subject access for 1972 through 1992. And the business records cover the last eighteen months of the newspaper's struggle to survive. The collection provides a wealth of information for researchers interested in the Sacramento region in the last quarter of the 20th century.

  • Microfilm format
The use copy of the Sacramento Union is the microfilm which is available for 1851-1994. Shields Library holds the microfilm for the years 1851-1854; 1856-1864 and 1869-1994. Researchers are welcome to use the microfilm, located in the lower level of Shields Library, anytime Shields Library is open. Other local repositories that hold the Sacramento Union microfilm include the California State University, Sacramento Library, Sacramento Public Library, and the California State Library. Researchers not in the Davis area should contact their local public library to explore options to borrow the microfilm via inter-library loan.
