Materials are limited to the English language. Formats include photographs, audiotapes, pamphlets, books, realia, and manuscripts. There are no geographical limits, although the bulk of the materials focus on American agricultural efforts. Related collections can be found under the headings of Agricultural Technology, Plant Science, and California History.

  • Agricultural Appropriations Collection

    (MC008)
    Correspondence from the files of J.L. Gillis to and from other universities regarding agricultural education appropriations. Legislative and Municipal Reference Librarian at the California State Library in the early 20th century.

  • AgRISTARS/LACIE Collection

    (D-342)
    Aerial photographic negatives and transparencies of croplands. Country areas include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, USSR, and United States. Collection represents the first major step in instituting an automated system capable of monitoring crop conditions and estimating crop production on a worldwide basis. Accompanying documents assist in the identification of small grains, such as wheat, using satellite imagery. This joint agricultural monitoring effort included the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

  • Akins, Samuel B. Papers

    (D-314)
    Correspondence and printed materials, as well as photograph and slidesrelating to cotton farming and legislation. Extension agent for the Agricultural Experiment Station in Shafter; worked with the Farm Program Development and Analysis program in Washington, D.C. and helped the Roosevelt Administration set up cotton programs for the New Deal. After his retirement from the USDA in 1950, Akins bought a farm in Strathmore, California, and continued to work on cotton improvements and water conservation.

  • Allewelt, William F. Papers

    Correspondence, speeches, and files related to his involvement with Tri Valley Growers, Sun-Diamond Growers of California, and the University of California Agricultural Issues Center. Allewelt (1926-2010) served as Chief Executive Officer of Tri Valley Growers from 1966-1985.

    Circulars, notices, and news items regarding political activities of interest to member colleges and universities. Cooperative association established to communicate news between members of the academic community.

  • C.H. Street & Company Scrapbooks Collection

    Seven scrapbooks containing newsclippings regarding agriculture,weather, irrigation, water rights, and agricultural shipping. Theclippings are from publications such as Pacific Rural Press, SacramentoRecord Union, and other Central Valley newspapers.

    One framed photograph of the commissioners, with biographical notes. In the early 1900's, the Commission studied the operation and organization of agricultural colleges and recommended that University of California, Davis continue to operate within the University of California system.
