Zelma Long is a trailblazer in the wine industry, making her mark as both a winemaker and a businesswoman. When Zelma Long entered the UC Davis Viticulture and Enology program in 1968, she was only the second woman to do so. She worked at Mondavi Winery from 1970 until 1979, where she rose to the rank of chief enologist. She then took a job as a winemaker at Simi Winery in Healdsburg. In 1989 she was named CEO at Simi, one of the first women to hold an executive position at a winery, and one of the first women to run both the winemaking and business side of a California winery. This collection contains documents, photographs, awards, presentation notes, travel journals, wine research, and news clippings related to Long’s career, . including papers related to her work with the Robert Mondavi Winery, Simi Winery, Long Vineyards, Zelphi Wines, and business files related to her consultancy work.
