The collection, which documents warehouse organizing in the West Sacramento, California area, contains minutes, correspondence, administrative files, photographs, picket signs, and memorabilia. In 1935, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) established Local 38-118 to represent workers in the Sacramento area. Two years later, Pacific Coast ILA members voted to become independent from the ILA and formed the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union (ILWU). At that time, Local 38-118 became ILWU Local 17. In 2011, members affiliated with Local 150 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
