President of Sustainable Agriculture Education (SAGE) since 2001, Sibella Kraus organizes and leads projects, organizations, and coalitions related to regional and sustainable agriculture, land use, economic development, and the production and promotion of organic products. A former cook at Chez Panisse and produce wholesaler, Kraus created the Tasting of Summer Produce and the Farm-Restaurant Project to link cities with their nearby agricultural areas. She was founding director of the Center for Urban Education on Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA) and later served as executive director. As founding director of the San Francisco Public Market Collaborative, Kraus created the renowned San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market during her tenure (1991-2000). She directed the UC Berkeley Agriculture in Metropolitan Regions program (2006-2009), which led to the establishment of the Berkeley Food Institute in 2013. 

Recognized for her prolific contributions, Kraus’s awards include the Regional Food Economies Fellowship (Wallace Center) and Regional Food Leader from the Natural Resources Defense Council’s National Growing Green Award.

Kraus’s published writing includes Greens: A Country Garden Cookbook (1993) and Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development article “San Jose Food Works Study: Demonstrating the Economics of Local Food Systems Toolkit Methodology” (2019).
